Jeangu Macrooy releases fourth studio album on October 10th 2025

Back to overview

Last night, Jeangu Macrooy proudly announced the release date of his fourth studio album on Leo Blokhuis’ radio show on NPO Radio 2. “Young, Awkward & Lonely” will be released on October 10th, 2025, after which Jeangu will launch a tour of the same name.

Following the success of his latest single, “Independent Girls & Nasty Evil Gays,” which was named TopSong on NPO Radio 2, Jeangu will release a candid and outspoken new album this fall. “Young, Awkward & Lonely” doesn’t tell a classic coming-of-age story, but instead reveals what happens after adulthood: the moment when you begin to understand yourself, but the answers to life’s big questions still elude you. In twelve layered songs, Jeangu explores what it’s like to be young, to feel awkward, and to be alone. Each of these themes is addressed from a different perspective: the relationship with oneself, with the people around oneself, and with the world.

Young, Awkward & Lonely poses questions without providing clear-cut answers, but offers recognition, nuance, and direction. The lyrics take you through personal thoughts, conflicting relationships, and the complex relationship we have as humans with the world around us. Jasper Zuidervaart’s production (Chef’Special, among others) blends influences from pop, folk, and indie with Jeangu’s characteristic soulful voice, creating a surprisingly new sound.

This fall, Jeangu will tour the Netherlands with his eponymous theater tour, performing the album live with his band and three singers from the ZO! Gospel Choir. The tour starts on October 25th in Leiden and runs until December 19th, with performances in thirteen Dutch theaters.

Jeangu Macrooy’s musical journey began when he received his first guitar at the age of thirteen and started writing his own songs. In 2014, he moved from Suriname to the Netherlands, where he achieved breakthrough in 2017 with his debut album “High On You,” produced by Perquisite. He quickly became an established name in the Dutch music scene, receiving Edison Award nominations, performing at festivals like Lowlands and North Sea Jazz and participating in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020 and 2021. After starring in the musical “Jesus Christ Superstar” directed by Ivo van Hove last year, Jeangu is currently starring in Anaïs Mitchell’s musical “Hadestown,” which is scheduled to air at Carré all summer and has once again received rave reviews.
